The damper uses a free-rotating inertia ring surrounded by viscous silicone fluid, all enclosed in a laser-welded, sealed housing. As the crankshaft rotates, torsional vibrations naturally occur during engine operation. The outer housing moves with the crankshaft while the inertia ring attempts to maintain a constant speed. This difference in motion causes the silicone fluid to shear, absorbing the vibration energy and reducing harmful forces.

By controlling these destructive torsional vibrations, the damper helps protect critical engine components from damage. If left unchecked, these vibrations can lead to cracked or broken crankshafts, valve train problems, and premature bearing wear.
